Mold Part 1: Do You Have Mold Toxicity?

Mold Toxicity

Mold is a nasty sun-of-a-gun and if you’ve suffered from it, you know how debilitating it can be. In Mold Part 1 here, let’s talk about what mold is, signs and symptoms of mold toxicity, and how to find/avoid mold. In parts 2 and 3, we’ll discuss what to do to heal from it. Ready? Let’s go!

What is Mold?

Simply, mold is a fungus — a fungus that can and will grow in any environment where there is dampness. While it is present outdoors, the real issue with mold is when it is growing indoors and we inhale it. This fungus gives off its own little “seeds” into the air called mold spores. If inhaled, these mold spores can create a lot of inflammation and problems with someones health. While most people experience the same problems of extreme fatigue and brain fog, there are many other symptoms people experience — see below.

Mold Toxicity Signs & Symptoms

  • EXTREME fatigue
  • Chronic Pain
  • Brain fog / poor memory
  • Abdominal Pain or Digestive Issues
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability / Rage
  • Depression
  • Rashes / Skin Problems
  • Poor Sleep / Insomnia
  • Unexplained weight-gain
  • Numbness and/or tingling
  • Any health issues that began after moving into a new living place, new church, new office, or beginning at a new school.

The signs and symptoms can vary significantly — that is why diagnosing mold can be so difficult. If a patient presents with numbness or tingling, most doctors would consider a neurological or spinal issue. If extreme fatigue, a doctor may consider an iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, or thyroid disorder.

This is why taking a good history is so important. To really uncover what is actually going on, doctors should be spending the necessary time to dig into the details of when a person’s health issues began. Okay…I digress…

How to spot Mold?

Mold generally grows in any environment that there has been some sort of water damage or leak. Water creates dampness and dampness is the perfect condition for mold to grow.

Here is an image of a water-damaged ceiling tile. This is a strong indication that there has been a water leak of some kind and thus likely mold growing near by. Look for circular stains like these and try to avoid these places.

If you ever see any black spots or stains on the wall or ceiling, that may actually be mold growing. Avoid going anywhere near it or breathing in air from that area and immediately call a properly trained company to come and treat it / renovate the infected wall/ceiling.

How to Diagnose Mold Toxicity

If you think you may have mold toxicity, there are two accurate and dependable ways to check for mold toxicity:

#1 Lab Testing — Mycotox Profile from Great Plains Laboratory. The upside: this lab accurately shows the levels of mold toxicity and the types of mold toxicity present in your body. The downside: it can cost upwards of a few hundred dollars or more, the lab cannot truly connect the mold toxicity to the symptoms you’re experiencing, and this doesn’t help us know exactly what is needed to detox the mold.

#2 Neurological / Biofeedback testing — utilizing the skill that is Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) in an advanced neurological technique such as Sytems Health Care, when done properly by a skilled physician, can be a great way to rule in or rule out mold toxicity. The upside: there are no expensive lab costs here (only appointment costs), tt is extremely reliable and accurate (when done by a skilled practitioner of Systems Health Care), and you can also determine exactly what nutrient is needed to detox the mold spores. The downside: there really is none.
